Student Transport Driver (non bus)

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To pick up and transport students to and from school and/or District related functions as assigned. This job class adheres to all the rules, regulations and requires of SB 88. 

SUPERVISOR : Director of Transportation / Associate Superintendent of Business

TYPICAL DUTIES

• Coordinate daily transportation schedules for students, ensuring timely pickups and drop-offs.


• Maintain communication with parents, students, and school staff regarding transportation services and any changes to schedules.


• Monitor and evaluate transport routes for efficiency and safety, making adjustments as necessary.


• Ensure that all vehicles used for student transport are well-maintained, inspected regularly, and compliant with safety standards.


• Address and resolve any transportation-related issues or concerns from parents, students, or staff.


• Collect and maintain transportation records, including ridership data and incident reports as necessary


• Collaborate with local transportation authorities and school administration


• Promote and encourage safe behavior among students while using transportation services.


• Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License


• Knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance requirements


• Ability to learn the location of District schools and other sites as required


• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions


• Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms


• Ability to perform routine record keeping functions


• Ability to perform routine maintenance of assigned vehicle


• Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties


• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties


• Must be willing to obtain certificates for Mace, Baton, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and First Aid at District expense within 90 days of employment.

Additional SB 88 requirements:

• Comply with drug and alcohol testing subject to cannabis discrimination limitations


• Complete a medical examination by a USDOT’s national registry physician


• Complete initial and subsequent student transportation training


• Maintain a daily log sheet and complete pre trip inspections as needed
