Position Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst (Grant Management) is responsible for providing high-level financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and full lifecycle grant management for the organization. This role ensures strong fiscal stewardship of public and private grant funds, supports compliance with federal and state regulations, and provides strategic financial insights to senior leadership. The Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in strengthening financial systems, supporting program teams, and ensuring financial sustainability for the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, dashboards, and variance analyses.
  • Develop financial models and forecasts to support organizational planning and grant-funded program requirements.
  • Monitor financial performance across programs and funding streams, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
  • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for leadership, program directors, and the Board.

Grant Management & Compliance

  • Oversee all fiscal aspects of local, state, federal, and private grants, including initial budget development, fund allocation, tracking, and financial closeout.
  • Ensure compliance with grant terms, regulatory requirements, and cost principles, including 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) when applicable.
  • Prepare reimbursement requests, financial reports, drawdowns, and supporting documentation for grantors.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records for all grants and restricted funds.
  • Partner with program staff to ensure expenditures align with grant deliverables, allowable costs, and timelines.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead or support the annual budgeting process for organization-wide budgets and grant proposals.
  • Develop multi-year projections to assist with long-term planning and grants strategy.
  • Track budgets monthly and communicate variances or financial risks to leadership.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial materials for the Board of Directors and funding stakeholders.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Strengthen internal controls related to grant expenditures, restricted funds, and financial documentation.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance financial accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Assist in preparing for annual audits, including Single Audits if required, by compiling necessary schedules and documentation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with program teams to support grant implementation, monitoring, and compliance.
  • Provide financial training or guidance to program managers to improve grant stewardship and budget adherence.
  • Support leadership with financial insights needed for strategic decisions, fundraising initiatives, and new grant opportunities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of financial analysis experience , including 2+ years managing nonprofit grants or restricted funds .
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Demonstrated experience preparing budgets, forecasts, financial statements, and complex analyses.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, modeling).
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational ability, and commitment to meeting deadlines.

Preferred

  • Master's degree (MBA, MPA, MAcc) or professional certification (CPA, CMA, CGFM).
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting platforms such as MIP Fund Accounting, Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks Nonprofit.
  • Experience in social service, healthcare, or community-based nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
