Mail Carrier Location: 315 Court St, Clearwater, FL 33756 Are you like the postal service? Unstoppable by rain or heat or gloom of night? Then apply to "deliver" for Pinellas County's Clerk of the Courts.
The mail carrier performs daily distribution of USPS and interoffice mail, official records, other materials, and equipment throughout the County and affiliated organizations. The role maintains a pickup and delivery schedule throughout the County in keeping with established procedures and performs light to medium physical labor lifting and carrying items associated with mail, supplies, and other items. Mail Carriers may drive over 100 miles a day and transport checks and cash to various locations within the County, as well as perform Mail Clerk and other related functions when not engaged in courier activities. Responsibilities may shift daily to support operational needs of the department.
What You Would Do - Sorts mail, parcels, and other materials according to delivery routes and schedules and breaks down and repackages bulk quantities of mail for appropriate distribution;
- Makes pickups and deliveries at pre-determined locations throughout the County in accordance with department policy;
- Transports and delivers checks, cash, and other negotiable items, writes receipts for articles received, and is held accountable for safe delivery of funds;
- Operates a Clerk motor vehicle for scheduled delivery and pick up at designated locations throughout Pinellas County, schedules routine vehicle maintenance in accordance with established policies, and requests/schedules alternate vehicle transportation during usual vehicle maintenance periods or emergency repairs;
- Performs mailroom duties as necessitated by workflow or operational demands;
- Operates Postage Metering Mail Machines with FedEx and UPS computer shipping systems;
- Trains new hires on the functions of the mail courier, mail clerk, and mail center work duties;
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
What You Need To Have Education and Experience: One (1) year of motor vehicle operator work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Florida Driver's License or Florida Commercial Driver's License and endorsement, if any.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of main thoroughfares and governmental centers in the County;
- Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the use of a motor vehicle and of the occupational hazards and safety precautions in the operation of motor vehicles;
- Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, policies, computers, operating systems, and related software applications;
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and keep associated records and possession of sufficient physical strength and ability to load and unload relatively heavy parcels, boxes, and sacks;
- Ability to use or repair small and medium equipment and machinery.
