Process Operator (Entry to Intermediate Level) Overview The Process Operator is responsible for operating, controlling, and monitoring vital process control systems across a variety of facilities, including plant operations, onshore and offshore natural gas processing facilities, pumping stations, distribution terminals, storage facilities, and offshore production sites. This role is designed to provide early-career professionals with increasingly challenging assignments to grow their technical expertise and practical experience in process operations.
Responsibilities - Operate, monitor, and control process control systems in assigned facilities.
- Execute standard operating procedures to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Learn and apply knowledge of more complex equipment and processes under supervision.
- Assist with troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and corrective action on process systems.
- Maintain accurate and current operational records and ensure adherence to preventative maintenance schedules.
- Participate in design reviews and provide operational insights where required.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, demonstrating sound judgment to ensure a safe working environment.
- Provide basic guidance to contractors or less experienced employees as needed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to process efficiency and operational reliability.
Development Path - Initially perform assignments within defined areas, progressively taking on more complex tasks with less direct supervision.
- Receive guidance from a Coordinator or Supervisor, with oversight decreasing as technical independence and proficiency grow.
- For employees under apprenticeship programs, this position aligns with apprenticeship levels 2 through 4.
- Completion of all core technical training and, in the United States, all applicable Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements.
Qualifications - High School Diploma required.
- Typically 0-3 years of experience in process operations or related fields.
- At least 2 years of directly relevant training and experience preferred.
- Strong technical understanding of routine process operations.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relay information clearly and accurately.
- Ability to work independently on standard tasks and contribute to more complex assignments under guidance.
