Director of Finance

Hours: On site initially but will convert to hybrid (2-3 days/week) once established

Summary

This non-profit organization is dedicated to building healthy, equitable, community-driven systems. The Director of Finance serves as the financial leader for the organizationoverseeing budgeting, reporting, forecasting, audit, and compliance. This role partners closely with the CEOs, Program Directors, Development team, and the Boards Finance & Audit Committees. You will manage a small accounting team (2 people) and ensure strong financial stewardship across a mission-driven, community-focused environment.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, and cash management.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process and support program and development teams in creating grant budgets, financial schedules, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis, planning, and long-term sustainability modeling to support mission growth and program impact.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financials for leadership and the Board; present to Finance & Audit Committees.
  • Oversee annual audit, coordinate with external auditors, and ensure GAAP and non-profit accounting compliance.
  • Maintain and strengthen financial policies, procedures, and internal controls across the organization.
  • Oversee AP/AR, payroll coordination, banking relationships, and general accounting functions.
  • Contribute as part of the senior leadership team on strategy, operations, and resource planning.
  • Coach and support program leaders to manage budgets effectively and understand financial drivers.
  • Partner with development staff on grant compliance, invoicing, and financial documentation.
  • Support a culture of transparency, equity, inclusion, and community empowerment.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of non-profit finance and operations experience, with strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, audits, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to translate complex financial concepts to program teams, leadership, and community-facing stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make clear recommendations.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, community engagement, and serving diverse populations.
  • A leadership style that builds trust, supports staff, and models professionalism and accountability.
